LPIC-1: Linux Administrator (101-500 and 102-500)
LPIC-1 is earned by passing both 101-500 and 102-500. Exam 101 covers system architecture, installation and package management, GNU and Unix commands, and devices and filesystems; exam 102 covers shells and scripting, interfaces and desktops, administrative tasks, essential system services, networking fundamentals and security. Questions are multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank — the latter means typing a command or path exactly, with nothing to check it against. The certification is active for five years.
