The support period has to reflect how long the product is realistically in use, and the regulation sets five years as the floor, with a shorter period only where the product's expected use is genuinely shorter. It is not tied to the consumer guarantee period, and it does not end because a model leaves the catalogue — buyers of the last unit are still inside their support period.
